Police in Katsina State have arrested three individuals found in possession of 740 rounds of live ammunition concealed inside a bag of guinea corn. The suspects were intercepted at a checkpoint while attempting to transport the ammunition to Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of the state.
During a press briefing at the command’s headquarters, Katsina State Police spokesperson, Sadiq Abubakar, identified the suspects as Ahmed Mohammed Kabir, 25, from Hayin Danmani, Kaduna State; Mannir Musa, 25, from Dutsin-Ma town; and Aliyu Iliya, 25, from Dankauye village in Ummadau, Safana LGA, Katsina State. They were apprehended in Dutsin-Ma town while trying to deliver the 740 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition to suspected armed bandits in Yauni forest, Ummadau village, Safana LGA.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had received the ammunition from Nasarawa State and were en route to deliver it to a notorious bandit leader known as Harisu, who is currently at large. The suspects confessed to their involvement and identified Harisu as the mastermind behind the operation.
