Asaba, Delta State — Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have thwarted a large-scale kidnap operation and arrested key members of a notorious criminal syndicate, including two native doctors.
The breakthrough was announced in a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, detailing the arrest of five suspects involved in coordinated kidnap plots across Sapele and Oghara, Delta State.
According to the statement, the operation followed intelligence gathered about a planned abduction targeting prominent individuals in the area. The syndicate, led by Owei Abebo, also known as “Aduda”, had been under police surveillance since 2021.
“On July 19, 2025, operatives from the CP-Special Assignment Team, led by ASP Julius Robinson, arrested one Peter Benson, a 35-year-old herbalist from Kwale, Ndokwa LGA,” Edafe revealed. “Benson’s confession led officers to Joseph Saniyo, 63, the syndicate’s main spiritualist, found with fetish items including three live tortoises believed to be used for ritual fortification.”
Further intelligence enabled the police to apprehend Abebo and his associates—Ebi Maye (41) and Happy Obegha (39)—in separate raids.
During the operation, police recovered 247 rounds of live ammunition intended for use in a submachine gun (SMG), further underlining the threat posed by the group.
The Delta State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to proactive security enforcement and assured residents that the command remains resolute in dismantling criminal networks across the state.
