Lagos, Nigeria – Ruth Otabor, sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, has passed away following complications from injuries sustained in a recent accident. Her death was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday, August 31, by Eko Solicitors & Advocates on behalf of the family.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, sister, and mother, Ruth Otabor, on the 31st day of August 2025 at approximately 6:30 a.m.,” the statement read.
The family expressed deep sorrow over the loss and has appealed for privacy as they grieve. “The family is presently mourning and kindly requests privacy during this difficult time. Details regarding funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course,” the statement added.
Ruth Otabor’s death comes weeks after she was involved in a tragic road accident near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, on Wednesday, August 13. Reports indicate she was struck by a truck allegedly linked to the Dangote Group, resulting in severe leg injuries that led to an emergency amputation.
The accident occurred just six days after Ruth graduated from Auchi Polytechnic. Her untimely death has left her family, friends, and supporters in profound mourning.
