Petroleum Minister Urges Dialogue to Prevent Protests

Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, has called on Nigerians, especially the youth in the Niger Delta region, to remain calm and refrain from joining the proposed nationwide protest.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Nneamaka Okafor, the Minister expressed his understanding of the frustrations and challenges facing Nigerians and urged for constructive approaches to address these issues.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to revitalizing our economy and bringing renewed hope through well-thought-out policies and programs,” the statement read.

While acknowledging the importance of protests in a democracy, Senator Lokpobiri warned against the potential exploitation of the protests for malicious purposes.

“Certain groups are looking to use this protest to incite violence and crime. We must not let non-state actors disrupt our peace and stability,” he cautioned.

Senator Lokpobiri advocated for constructive engagement and dialogue to address grievances, emphasizing that actions which could destabilize the nation should be avoided.

Public officials, security agencies, religious leaders, and other concerned Nigerians have also stressed the importance of dialogue over protests, highlighting the risk of protests being hijacked by individuals with ulterior motives.
