Peter Obi expresses his position on the demolition of buildings in the Alaba market carried out by the Lagos State Government.
Peter Obi, a member of the Labour Party (LP), has responded to the recent demolitions that took place in the Alaba International Market by the Lagos State Government.
Obi acknowledged that while some of the demolitions may have been justified, they have negatively impacted numerous individuals, particularly innocent and misinformed ordinary citizens.
He emphasized that the primary responsibility of any government is to ensure the welfare and safety of its citizens.
In a statement shared through his verified Twitter account on Tuesday, the former governor of Anambra State suggested that when addressing planning or zoning violations, governments should focus on implementing corrective measures that are not punitive or excessively insensitive.
It should be noted that on June 16, the Lagos Government initiated the removal of dilapidated structures within the Alaba International Market, situated in the Ojo Local Government Area of the state.
