The Delta State Independent Electoral Commission has announced the results of the local government elections held last Saturday across the state’s 25 local government areas.
During a ceremony in Asaba, the Commission’s Chairman, Dr. Jerry Agbaike, declared that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) secured all 25 local government chairmanship positions and 499 councillorship seats out of 500 wards. The Allied People’s Movement (APM) won one councillorship seat in Aniocha North Local Government Area.
Dr. Agbaike described the council elections as peaceful, credible, free, and fair. He praised the security agencies, media, observers, and ad hoc personnel for their roles in ensuring the smooth conduct of the elections.
Returning officers for the various local government elections announced the collated results from the wards under tight security.
Meanwhile, the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission has presented certificates of return to the newly elected council chairmen and their deputies at its headquarters in Asaba.
Dr. Agbaike, who presented the certificates, urged the elected officials to deliver impactful and good governance to the people in their respective council areas.
