Oyo state, Nigeria-A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Shina Peller, has said the party is well-positioned to usher in a transformative leadership model that reflects the aspirations of Nigerians.
Peller made the assertion on Tuesday in a statement celebrating the PDP’s victory in the recent Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election, where Folajimi Oyekunle emerged winner. The former House of Representatives member described the outcome as a significant milestone for the party and a reflection of public confidence in the administration of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
“Engineer Seyi Makinde’s leadership continues to inspire trust among the people of Oyo State,” Peller said. “The result of the Ibadan North bye-election demonstrates that the PDP remains a dominant political force in the state and signals the party’s potential to introduce the kind of systemic change Nigerians desire.”
Highlighting Governor Makinde’s youth-driven governance strategy, Peller noted that approximately 70 percent of officials in the state cabinet are under 45, including Oyekunle, who at 42 represents the emerging generation of public leaders.
He praised the governor’s “Omituntun” development agenda for creating opportunities for young people and positioning the PDP as a progressive platform ready to embrace inclusive governance.
“The path to genuine change lies not in fighting the current system, but in building a new one that renders the old obsolete,” Peller stated.
Looking ahead, the PDP chieftain urged Nigerians to anticipate the party’s upcoming national convention scheduled for November 2025 in Ibadan, assuring that it would mark the beginning of a leadership style aligned with national expectations.
“The convention will not just be symbolic; it will reflect our readiness to lead with purpose and innovation, as demanded by the Nigerian people,” he added.
