Kebbi, Nigeria
Three out of the four House of Assembly members elected under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State, along with their supporters, have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defection was announced during the APC’s campaign flag-off for the Local Government Elections at Koko Besse Local Government Area. Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Usman Muhammad Ankwai, stated that the three lawmakers from the opposition party decided to join the APC due to the leadership and performance of Governor Nasir Idris.
The defecting PDP House of Assembly members represent the constituencies of Arugungu, Bunza, and Yauri. Their move was cited as a testament to their support for Governor Idris’s vision for the development and progress of Kebbi State.
Receiving the lawmakers and their supporters at the campaign rally, the state Chairman of APC, Alhaji Abubakar Kana Zuru, assured them of the party’s support and fairness. He highlighted that Governor Idris’s efforts to develop the state within a year were aimed at transforming the lives of the people of Kebbi.
The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning and former Governor of the state, Senator Atiku Abubakar Bagudu, expressed satisfaction with the achievements of Governor Idris’s administration over the past year.
Former Governor and Director General of the party’s campaign committee for the last governorship election in the state, Saidu Usman Dakingari, urged voters to support the APC in the upcoming local government elections, praising Governor Idris’s efforts in delivering the dividends of democracy to Kebbi State residents.
