The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for Kogi State in the 2023 election, Senator Dino Melaye, has expressed deep concerns over the current state of the party, declaring that the PDP has reached a dead end.
Melaye, a former two-term senator, criticized the party’s acting national chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagum, along with the national secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and national organizing secretary, Umar Bature, accusing them of causing irreparable damage to the PDP.
The former lawmaker, currently on vacation abroad, voiced his frustrations in a Facebook post on Saturday, hinting that more details will be revealed soon. “It’s the end of the road for PDP as Damagum, Bature, and Anyanwu have irredeemably destroyed the party. We will eventually expose the commercialization and privatization of the PDP. The party is now just a memory,” Melaye wrote.
In a related development, National Assembly member Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, representing Ideato North/South federal constituency of Imo State, has repeatedly called for the removal of Damagum from his position as PDP national chairman. Ugochinyere has accused Damagum of betrayal and allowing indiscipline within the party.
Recently, Ugochinyere also accused Damagum and Anyanwu of compromising the PDP’s stance during the Rivers State political crisis, to the party’s detriment.
