PDP chair announces Tinubu on subsidy reduction, exchange rate unification

The Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, on Wednesday, hailed President Bola Tinubu for reducing fuel subsidies and unification of the naira exchange rates.

Communicating with journalists at an interactive session in Benin City, Aziegbemi described the decisions as the best way to go, adding that the two policies will save the country over N2 trillion.

While commenting on the state of the nation, Aziegbemi said people were worried about the nature of palliatives that the government will put in place to ameliorate the suffering of Nigerians, arising from the fuel subsidy reduction.

Aziegbemi, an economist, expressed concern over those he termed as crooks around President Tinubu, persuading him to be wary of those people and try as much as possible to keep ‘the strong men’ at the back seat of governance in order not to create a bad image for his administration.

He said: “I must commend President Tinubu for some of the steps he has taken especially the removal of fuel subsidy and unification of the exchange rate. This policy will save the country over N2 trillion in due course.

“I hope the government will finalize in area decent palliative criteria to soften the outcome of the removal of the subsidy. I have also seen some “crooks” around the president and he should be wary of such people who can violate his government,” he added.
