Abuja, Nigeria:Adamu Waziri, a founding member and Board of Trustees (BoT) member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has officially resigned from the party and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Waziri made the announcement on Monday at his Dogo Tebo Ward in Potiskum, Yobe State, explaining that his resignation followed the PDP’s constitutional requirement to formally step down at the ward level.
He cited a decline in the PDP’s credibility and its failure to uphold the values of a robust opposition as key reasons for his defection. “I was a member of PDP, and due to the exigencies of the moment and in the interest of the nation, I have decided to resign,” Waziri stated.
Calling on his supporters to rally behind a new political movement, Waziri expressed hope that the ADC would offer a stronger platform for advancing democracy and delivering effective governance. He acknowledged that the decision was difficult but necessary, emphasizing that the PDP leadership has “lost its way.”
In response, Malam Muhammad Bomai, the PDP Ward Chairman representing the local party leadership, accepted Waziri’s resignation with regret, describing him as “a pillar of the party.” Bomai also announced his own resignation from the PDP and immediate defection to the ADC, aligning with Waziri’s vision for national progress.
“We will deeply feel Waziri’s absence. I share his vision for a better Nigeria and am committed to supporting this new political direction,” Bomai remarked.
