Passengers Stranded as Free Train Breaks Down in Delta

WARRI, DELTA STATE – Hundreds of passengers have been stranded at the Warri train station for two days following the breakdown of the free train service introduced for the festive season.

The situation, reported by newsmen has led to mounting frustration among travelers as the crowd at the station continues to swell. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with many passengers blaming the incident on inadequate maintenance of the service.

“It’s unfortunate we’ve been stuck here for two days. Perhaps because the train is free, they don’t see the need to maintain it properly,” a stranded passenger lamented.

The free train service, launched by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to facilitate cost-free travel during the holidays, was initially lauded as a commendable initiative. The service, which runs from December 20 to January 5, aimed to ease transportation challenges for Nigerians during the festive season.

However, the unexpected breakdown has cast doubts on the reliability of the program. “While we appreciate the government’s effort, this breakdown has caused more harm than good,” another passenger said, urging authorities to prioritize repairs and restore operations promptly.

As of press time, no official statement has been issued regarding the cause of the breakdown or when services will resume. Stranded passengers are appealing to the government and relevant agencies for immediate assistance to address the situation.
