Paris 2024: Super Falcons Will Qualify From ‘Group of Death’ — Waldrum

Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum is confident that his team will advance beyond the group stage at the 2024 Olympic Games.

The nine-time African champions have been drawn into a challenging group with Brazil, former world champions Japan, and reigning world champions Spain.

Drawing inspiration from their impressive performance at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Waldrum believes his team can overcome the tough competition.

“I think this could be a special group,” Waldrum told ESPN. “We’ve shown our quality against some of the best teams in the world at the World Cup and hopefully, we’ll do the same at the Olympics.”

This week, the American coach announced his squad for the competition and expressed satisfaction with the team’s progress.

“I love the direction we’re heading. After a rough start, I think we’re now on a good path,” Waldrum added. “We have a lot of upcoming talent. As we start to transition some of the older players out after the Olympics and bring in new talent, I think we can achieve great things at the next level.”

The Super Falcons will kick off their campaign against Brazil at Stade Bordeaux on July 25, followed by a match against Spain on July 28, and their final group game against Japan on July 31.

The matches against Spain and Japan will take place at Stade de la Beaujoire in Nantes.
