Panel Formed to Investigate Anambra School Building Collapse

Justice Pete Obiora of the Court of Appeal has been appointed to lead a high-level investigative panel to determine the immediate and underlying causes of the collapse of a five-story building under construction at Dennis Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha, Anambra State.

Speaking to journalists at the incident site, the Bishop of the Niger Anglican Communion, Right Reverend Owen Nwokolo, expressed concern that no official explanation for the collapse has been provided since it occurred last week.

Bishop Nwokolo lamented that the building was intended to commemorate the centenary of Dennis Memorial Grammar School, established in 1925.

The Primate of the Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, noted the potential for a significant tragedy, highlighting that the collapse occurred while students were on break, thereby preventing possible casualties. He praised the Anambra State government for its prompt assistance in clearing the rubble and urged the inclusion of the church in all subsequent government actions related to the incident.
