P-Square Rift: Peter Okoye Accuses Twin Brother Paul of Damaging Group’s Legacy

Peter Okoye, known as ‘Mr. P’ from the renowned music duo P-Square, has publicly addressed the ongoing feud with his twin brother, Paul ‘Rudeboy’ Okoye, accusing him of tarnishing the legacy of the group they built together.

The P-Square brothers initially parted ways in 2017 following a disagreement involving their elder brother, Jude Okoye, but delighted fans with a reunion in 2021. However, this reunion was short-lived, with Paul recently confirming another split and alleging that Peter was responsible for his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a detailed Instagram post on Monday, Peter expressed his disappointment in Paul’s actions, accusing him of attempting to undermine his contributions to P-Square. “Why are you trying to discredit all my efforts in the group we both created?” Peter questioned.

Peter also accused Paul of consistently siding with their elder brother, Jude, who he claimed had been trying to “oppress” him. He emphasized that he is not in competition with his brother or anyone else, but was hurt by Paul’s attempts to diminish his role in the group. “Seeing you grant countless interviews where you constantly discredit my efforts in the group that we both created and built together really speaks volumes,” Peter wrote.

Peter refuted Paul’s claims of being the primary songwriter and vocalist for P-Square, stressing that their success was a product of their combined efforts. He pointed out several of the group’s hit songs, questioning whether Paul considered those to be failures as well. “You never acknowledged the other songs like ‘Get-Squared,’ ‘Bizzy Body,’ ‘Personally,’ ‘Roll It,’ ‘Temptation,’ ‘Alingo,’ ‘More than a Friend,’ ‘Shekini,’ ‘Say Your Love,’ ‘Gimme Dat,’ ‘Senorita,’ ‘Igbedu’ and a few others. Were these songs also considered failures?”

Peter expressed frustration over Paul’s repeated attempts to undermine him, accusing him of turning P-Square, once Africa’s most awarded and decorated music group, into a “laughing stock.” He stressed that P-Square’s success was not due to individual efforts but rather the unique chemistry they shared as a duo. “The fans didn’t fall in love with P-Square because of who sang or danced the most. What made us special was the magic that came from our combined effort – us two!”

He also criticized Paul for aligning with their elder brother Jude, suggesting that family dynamics had played a significant role in the group’s troubles. “You have disrespected my wife, disrespected my family, disrespected my talent, disrespected my ideas, and even sided with Jude when he was clearly trying to oppress me.”

In closing, Peter expressed his frustration with the ongoing feud and its impact on their fan base. “It feels like you have taken it even further by trying so hard to turn the fans against me by making them believe I’m jealous of you. You have been doing everything for the fans to hate me, but guess what? They will never hate me; instead, they will hate us both because we have disappointed and failed them.”

He concluded by wishing his brother well but lamented how the group’s once-stellar reputation had been diminished by their ongoing conflict.
