Ibadan, Nigeria — The Oyo State Government has announced plans to preserve and digitise the personal library of the late Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, a former governor of the old Oyo State, as part of efforts to honour his legacy and turn the archive into a tourist and research destination.
Governor Seyi Makinde made the declaration during a solemn lying-in-state and executive session organised at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, in tribute to the late statesman. He described Olunloyo’s library as a “treasure trove of knowledge” capable of providing insights into national development challenges.
Makinde emphasised that digitising and preserving the collection would immortalise the contributions of the late governor, who once led the state during the Second Republic. He noted that Dr. Olunloyo’s guidance had greatly impacted his own administration, especially in fostering peace and effective governance.
“In most of my conversations with Baba, his library always came up. I want to announce publicly that the state will support the family to preserve and digitise it. It must become a centre of knowledge and tourism,” the governor said.
In addition to the library initiative, Makinde confirmed that the Omololu Olunloyo Leisure Park at the Alakia-Airport area of Ibadan—named in 2023—will soon be officially commissioned. He also recalled that the 3 km Airport Road was renamed after the late governor in recognition of his service.
The governor concluded by urging the public to honour leaders who served selflessly and left behind enduring legacies.
