The Oyo State government has launched an electronic payment system for retirees’ gratuities to ensure a secure, efficient, and uninterrupted disbursement process.
Speaking at a three-day data capturing and e-payment exercise for retirees at the Nigeria Union of Pensioners’ Building in Agbarigo, Onireke, Ibadan, Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Olusegun Olayiwola, announced that the initiative aims to streamline the payment process by capturing and validating retirees’ data from June to December 2014 and June to December 2019, with plans to include other retirees in subsequent phases.
Olayiwola assured pensioners that Governor Seyi Makinde remains dedicated to maintaining a strong relationship with the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, Oyo State chapter, and other key stakeholders to enhance the welfare of retirees and citizens across the state.
Dr. Olusegun Abatan, Secretary of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, Oyo State chapter, highlighted the benefits of the e-payment system, noting its potential to improve security, accuracy, and speed in the disbursement of gratuities. He commended Governor Makinde for his consistent efforts in promptly disbursing retirees’ benefits since taking office in 2019.
Olajide Okesade, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Establishments and Training, also expressed gratitude to Governor Makinde, the head of service, and the commissioner for their commitment to timely wage disbursements to retirees, civil servants, and other beneficiaries. He emphasized that the e-payment system offers enhanced security, quicker access to funds, and reduces the risks and delays associated with physical checks, such as theft or loss.
