Oyo Air Force Base Set for June Commissioning — Makinde

Ajia, Oyo State —  The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base in Ajia, Oyo State, is on track for completion and commissioning by June 2025, Governor Seyi Makinde has confirmed.

Governor Makinde made this known during an inspection visit to the site of the NAF Base project, expressing satisfaction with the pace of construction and the infrastructure already in place.

“We came to assess the state of infrastructure and preparedness for the full activation of the Air Force Base,” he said.

During the visit, the governor, who was guided by Air Vice Marshal Kolade Ademuwagun, the Air Officer Commanding, Logistics Command, NAF Ikeja, along with other top military officials, announced that the road leading from Ajia Junction on Ife Road to the Base will be expanded into a dual carriageway to enhance access.

In contrast, he noted that the connecting route from the Base to Airport Road will remain a single-lane road, but will also be completed to ensure smooth movement.

Highlighting key resolutions taken during the visit, Makinde said, “We’ve made concrete decisions today. The dualisation from Ife Road to the Base will commence immediately. The stretch from the Base to Airport Road will remain a single carriage but will be completed promptly.”

He further revealed that the Base is expected to be inaugurated around the end of May or early June, in alignment with the Nigerian Air Force anniversary.

On road completion timelines, the governor projected a six-month window, stating, “The hydraulic works have been completed. What’s left is to lay the stone base and apply the asphalt.”

Makinde was accompanied during the inspection by Mr. William Akin-Funmilayo, Commissioner for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development; Chief Bayo Lawal, Senior Executive Assistant to the Governor on General Duties; and other key government officials.
