OSUN – Former aides of ex-Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola have rejected allegations of financial misconduct made by the current governor, Ademola Adeleke.
Adeleke recently filed a petition with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), accusing Oyetola—now Minister of Blue Economy—of misappropriating a $20 million World Bank health grant meant for renovating 320 primary health centers in Osun State. The petition also alleged violations of the Public Procurement Act.
Responding to the allegations, Osun APC’s Director of Media, Kola Olabisi, alongside former commissioners and advisers, dismissed the claims as politically motivated. They insisted that all funds from the World Bank’s Save One Million Lives (SOML) initiative were used transparently and in line with due process.
“The funds were monitored by the donor and strictly used for improving healthcare. Contracts followed procurement regulations,” Olabisi stated.
The former officials challenged the Osun government to provide evidence by publishing contractor names and award dates. They also dismissed claims of money laundering through the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), calling for forensic audits rather than baseless accusations.
Olabisi emphasized that the $20.467 million was converted to ₦6.26 billion and credited to Osun’s account at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), asserting that records could verify the transparency of transactions.
“If wrongdoing exists, let them go to court instead of misleading the public,” he concluded, defending Oyetola’s administration as a model of accountability.
