Abuja, Nigeria — The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the results of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) resit, revealing a startling statistic: more than 99% of candidates scored below 200 marks, with only a handful achieving scores slightly above that threshold.
The resit exercise was conducted for candidates who sat exams in selected centres across six states, where technical disruptions and irregularities had earlier prompted the cancellation of results.
According to a statement issued by Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, the disappointing performance was linked to widespread malpractice, allegedly involving some candidates, school proprietors, and Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre operators.
“We uncovered multiple disturbing practices that significantly undermined the integrity of the exam,” the statement noted.
Benjamin also dismissed online claims that some candidates from the cancelled sessions had scored exceptionally high and wished to retain their original results.
“Such reports are entirely baseless. In fact, only a negligible number scored up to 217, and no extraordinary results were recorded in the affected sessions,” he clarified.
Out of 336,845 candidates rescheduled for the retake—after filtering out sessions deemed credible and adding previously unverified candidates—21,082 failed to show up, according to JAMB.
The board also cited a specific case involving a candidate identified as Mr. Olisa, who allegedly forged his 2024 UTME result, altering a legitimate score of 203 to present a fabricated 2025 result with a score of 326. Investigations revealed that he actually sat for the 2025 UTME in Lagos, scoring 180 before his result was invalidated.
“Upon being exposed, Mr. Olisa promptly deleted his account on X (formerly Twitter),” the statement revealed.
JAMB warned that similar instances of manipulated results and impersonation have surfaced, and investigations are ongoing to identify and penalize all culprits involved.
