Ondo South Senator, Jimoh Ibrahim, has raised concerns about the presence of over 277 guns and assorted weapons within less than 1,000 meters of the National Assembly.
He made this revelation during a discussion on a motion regarding the suicide attacks in Gwoza, Borno State, which resulted in the deaths of 36 individuals. The motion was brought forward by Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South.
Senator Ibrahim expressed dismay at the recent resurgence of suicide bombings and highlighted the need for modern technology to be utilized by security forces in addressing insecurity. He emphasized the importance of deploying technology to combat the rising threats posed by notorious criminals.
Ibrahim suggested that security forces should make use of devices in their phones to track the locations of these criminals and ensure the safety of citizens. Senate President Godswill Akpabio engaged in a lighthearted exchange with Ibrahim, acknowledging his expertise in warfare. Ibrahim advocated for a shift from conventional strategies to non-conventional strategies in the fight against insurgency, particularly against groups like Boko Haram.
He emphasized the urgency of taking proactive measures to address the security challenges facing the country, suggesting that the Senate should convene a closed-door meeting to address security matters comprehensively.
Ibrahim stressed the importance of prioritizing security and taking decisive actions to ensure the safety and well-being of the Nigerian populace.
