A passenger plane carrying 181 people crashed while landing at Muan International Airport in southwestern South Korea on Sunday, leaving over 100 feared dead.
According to officials, the Jeju Air flight from Bangkok overshot the runway, struck a barrier, and erupted into flames. While most passengers are presumed dead, two survivors have been rescued, and search efforts are ongoing.
Footage of the crash shows the white-and-orange plane sliding on its belly along the runway before exploding into a massive fireball.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, with authorities considering the possibility of a bird strike that may have caused a landing gear malfunction, according to Ju Jong-wan, an aviation policy director at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport.
Local fire department officials confirmed the tragic incident and stated that rescue operations are still underway to recover victims and examine the wreckage.
