Okitipupa, Ondo State — The best-graduating student of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Stephen Emeomi-Magi, has been awarded N500,000 in recognition of his academic excellence.
The prestigious award, known as the “Mrs. Josephine Ajua Ahonaruogho Prize Money for Best Graduating Student,” was sponsored by the Ahonaruogho family of Benin, Edo State, as announced by OAUSTECH’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, in a statement on Wednesday.
Emeomi-Magi, a graduate of Electrical/Electronics Engineering, emerged as the best-graduating student for the 2023/2024 academic session during the university’s convocation on March 4.
The convocation ceremony saw 995 students graduate, with breakdowns as follows:
– 31 First Class Honours
– 367 Second Class Upper Division
– 495 Second Class Lower Division
– 102 Third Class Honours
The scholarship initiative was officially communicated to the university by Dr. Richard Oma-Ahonaruogho, SAN, who emphasized that the award aimed to promote academic excellence and nurture future leaders capable of advancing Nigeria’s development.
OAUSTECH’s Registrar, Mr. Abiodun Okunniga, lauded Emeomi-Magi’s dedication and exceptional academic performance, expressing appreciation to the Ahonaruogho family for their continued investment in students’ success.
“This achievement reflects perseverance and commitment to excellence. We deeply appreciate the generosity of the Ahonaruogho family, whose support will leave a lasting impact on the lives of our students and the progress of our nation,” Okunniga stated.
Reacting to the honor, Emeomi-Magi expressed shock and gratitude upon receiving news of his recognition.
“I was completely overwhelmed when I learned I was the best-graduating student. I am grateful to God, the university management, and the Ahonaruogho family for acknowledging my efforts,” he said.
The university reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a culture of excellence and celebrating outstanding academic achievements.
