Osun State Acquires 31 Tractors to Boost Food Production

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has unveiled 31 newly acquired tractors and various farm inputs, in a move to boost agricultural productivity and food security across the state.

The unveiling ceremony took place at the Agric Farm Settlement in Aisu, Ede, where Governor Adeleke emphasized the critical importance of food sufficiency and availability as priorities for his administration. He announced that the tractors will be allocated to farmers’ cooperative societies and associations once all necessary administrative protocols are completed.

Governor Adeleke also revealed that the distribution plan includes 6,000 herbicides, 80,000 cashew seedlings, 8,000 cassava cuttings, 8,000 assorted vegetable seeds, and 500 bags of lime, targeted at benefiting farmers, women’s groups, individuals with disabilities, and government schools with extensive farmland.

Highlighting the scope of the initiative, Adeleke stated that the 31 tractors represent the first phase of the project, with a total of N8 billion allocated for acquiring tractors and farm-clearing equipment, alongside an additional N2 billion earmarked for farm input support.

Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Otunba Tola Faseru, commended Governor Adeleke for his commitment to tackling the challenges of food scarcity and high costs in the state. He noted that the governor’s approval for the procurement of tractors and other inputs is a vital step towards enhancing food security.

Faseru further mentioned that public primary and secondary schools will be equipped with vegetable and arable seeds for planting upon the resumption of classes in September, integrating school children into the state’s food security value chain.
