Osun Monarch Raises Concern Over Incomplete Highway Project

Osogbo, Nigeria The people of Ifon in Osun State have appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the delayed completion of the N6.620 billion Ilobu–Ifon–Ilie–Erin-Ile road project, describing recent claims of its completion as misleading.

The appeal was conveyed in a formal letter addressed to the President and routed through the Minister of Works, Mr. David Umahi. The letter, dated June 30 and acknowledged by the Ministry on July 2, was signed by the Olufon of Ifon, Oba Peter Adedokun Ipadeola.

The petition was triggered by President Tinubu’s public remark during the commissioning of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, where he reportedly stated that the Ilobu to Erin-Ile road had been completed. However, Oba Ipadeola, speaking on behalf of his community, refuted this claim, stating that only 7 out of the 44 kilometres of the road have been completed.

“Regrettably, I am constrained to report that only seven kilometres of the 44-kilometre stretch have been physically completed. The project, which began from Ilobu in Osun State and is expected to terminate in Erin-Ile, Kwara State, currently ends at Ifon-Osun in Orolu Local Government,” the monarch wrote.

Describing the development as a serious misinformation, Oba Ipadeola warned that it has generated disappointment and confusion among the people of the region, and may erode public confidence in the Federal Government’s infrastructure commitments.

He urged the President to investigate the discrepancy and ensure the immediate and full completion of the project, as earlier referenced in the President’s speech.

The traditional ruler expressed gratitude for President Tinubu’s ongoing efforts toward national development but emphasized that timely and accurate execution of infrastructure projects would further strengthen public trust.

The letter concluded with a call for prompt action to align actual implementation with public declarations, in order to restore faith in government accountability.
