Osogbo, Osun State — The endorsements of Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, for a second term by prominent Nigerians have sparked a heated exchange between the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Reports indicate that key figures, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, former Osun State Governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and labor unions, have thrown their weight behind Governor Adeleke’s reelection bid.
Reacting to these endorsements, the APC’s state chapter cautioned the governor, asserting that no amount of public support would secure his reelection in 2026. The party’s Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, argued that Adeleke’s administration is riddled with inefficiencies, stating that the endorsements do not guarantee success at the polls.
According to Olabisi, the governor’s tenure has failed to bring meaningful progress to the state, and the people of Osun are ready to replace him in the next election. He maintained that the endorsements were insignificant, citing past instances where similar gestures did not translate into electoral victories.
In a sharp rebuttal, the Osun PDP dismissed the APC’s claims, labeling them as baseless and indicative of desperation. State PDP Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, described the opposition’s stance as “the last kick of a dying horse.”
Bisi emphasized that Governor Adeleke’s endorsements were well-deserved, citing his administration’s impactful initiatives over the past two years. He argued that Adeleke’s government has brought relief to families affected by the APC’s previous administration and has significantly improved infrastructure and welfare in the state.
The PDP further maintained that Osun residents are unlikely to return to a party that, it claimed, had failed to prioritize their needs during its time in power.
