Osogbo, Nigeria— A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has cautioned opposition parties against dragging President Bola Tinubu into ongoing investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a statement released in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye stressed that the EFCC’s investigations into petitions against some former governors and political appointees from opposition parties are constitutional and in line with international best practices. He noted that being a member of the opposition does not grant immunity from scrutiny over allegations of financial misconduct.
The APC chieftain recalled that members of the ruling party have also been subject to EFCC investigations whenever petitions against them were raised, insisting that the anti-graft agency carries out its duties across party lines. According to him, the EFCC’s statutory mandate is to investigate financial infractions without bias, irrespective of political affiliations.
“The EFCC has a mandate to investigate financial infractions against anyone, irrespective of political affiliations,” he said. “Linking the President to these probes for political reasons is totally wrong.”
Oyintiloye therefore urged members of the opposition currently under investigation to focus on proving their innocence rather than blackmailing President Tinubu. He added that neither the President nor the EFCC would be swayed by unfounded allegations of witch-hunting but would continue to uphold justice and fairness.
Describing Tinubu as a man of integrity and honour, Oyintiloye expressed confidence that the President would not compromise his ideals in the name of politics. He emphasized that the present administration is determined to end corruption and ensure accountability in governance.
“So, it is no longer business as usual,” he declared. “More corrupt politicians hiding under the opposition with the intent to blackmail the President to escape justice will still be exposed. There is no room for graft under the Tinubu administration.”
The statement concluded with a strong warning to opposition politicians not to politicize the EFCC’s work but rather cooperate with investigations to prove their innocence. Oyintiloye maintained that Nigeria’s anti-corruption fight would be pursued without fear or favour, in the interest of justice and national progress.
