Opposition Lawmakers to Wike: Stop Dreaming, Fubara Won’t Leave PDP for You

The Coalition of Opposition Lawmakers in Nigeria has criticized the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for his recent comments, urging him to stop fantasizing about Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Wike had reportedly mocked Governor Fubara and his camp for allegedly turning to the Action People’s Party (APP) as an alternative ahead of the state’s upcoming local elections, vowing to teach them political strategies.

However, in a statement issued on Sunday by the coalition’s spokesperson, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the lawmakers rejected Wike’s claims, insisting that Fubara will remain firmly in control of the PDP.

Ugochinyere questioned Wike’s assumptions, stating, “Who told Wike that Fubara would leave the PDP for him while he aligns with the All Progressives Congress (APC)?”

Describing Wike’s allegations that Fubara had joined APP as baseless and a “daydream,” Ugochinyere emphasized that Wike’s position is weakening, as the PDP leadership he claims to control has already been deemed invalid by the courts. He also highlighted that the legitimate PDP structure in Rivers State is under Fubara’s leadership.

“The battle for the soul of the PDP has not even started, yet Wike is panicking like an amateur politician, running from one court to another,” Ugochinyere remarked. “Fubara has consistently outmaneuvered Wike, and the notion that he would leave the PDP for an APC member like Wike is laughable. Just wait and see how Fubara will win this fight for the control of the PDP.”

He added that Wike’s actions betray his desperation to retain political relevance while fearing the loss of federal protection. Ugochinyere reiterated that the ongoing reforms within the Rivers PDP would continue, and that Fubara’s camp remained committed to strengthening the party.

Despite some PDP members contesting in another party for local government elections, Ugochinyere stressed that this does not mean Fubara has joined APP, adding that Wike’s attempts to undermine the local government administration in Rivers have failed.

“The PDP executives Wike is parading are nothing more than an illegal committee of friends, as the court has already nullified their existence. The real PDP in Rivers is under Fubara’s control, and Wike should brace for the political battle ahead,” he concluded.
