San Francisco, USA — Artificial intelligence giant OpenAI has finalized one of the largest private funding rounds in history, securing $40 billion at a post-money valuation of $300 billion.
In a statement released on its official website, OpenAI emphasized that the fresh capital will drive advancements in AI research, expand its computing infrastructure, and enhance the capabilities of ChatGPT, which now serves over 500 million weekly users.
The company also highlighted its strategic partnership with SoftBank Group, whose investment will support the development of AI-driven scientific discovery, personalized education, and enhanced human creativity. OpenAI reaffirmed its commitment to advancing artificial general intelligence (AGI) for the benefit of humanity.
However, SoftBank’s full investment remains conditional, as reports suggest the company may cut its funding in half—to $20 billion—if it fails to complete a necessary restructuring in time.
The Wall Street Journal first reported on the accelerated timeline, noting that Microsoft-backed OpenAI initially had a two-year window after its last funding round but now faces increased pressure to execute its vision swiftly.
