A total of 627 representatives from the 18 council areas of Ondo State are set to select the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party for the governorship election in the state on November 16, 2024. The gubernatorial primary election will take place tomorrow (Thursday) in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.
Seven candidates vying for the governorship of the party, including a former deputy governor of the state, Hon Agboola Ajayi; a previous General Secretary of the Pan Yoruba Socio-Political Group, Afenifere; Chief Sola Ebiseni; a former information and orientation commissioner, Prince John Ola Mafo; Bamidele Akingboye; Adeolu Akinwumi; Bosun Arebuwa; and a former House of Representatives member, Hon. Kolade Akinjo, have been examined and approved by the Senator Sam Egwu screening committee to participate in the primary election.
The primary election will be managed by a 7-member Primary Election Committee, led by Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo. A statement by the state’s public relations secretary, Kennedy Peretei, in Akure mentioned that the election will occur at the International Culture and Events Centre (The Dome), Akure. Peretei also mentioned that the accreditation of representatives will start at 10:00 a.m. As stated by him, “individuals who are not representatives or do not have any business at the location are recommended to maintain a fair distance from the arena.”
