Ondo Market Inferno Destroys Goods Worth Millions

A fire outbreak at the Caring Heart Market in Okitipupa, located in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, has resulted in the destruction of goods valued at millions of naira.

The blaze, which started in the early hours of Thursday, ravaged a block of 18 locked-up shops containing frozen foods such as fish, turkey, and chicken. Additional losses included cash, deep freezers, generators, power regulators, fans, solar power systems, and other essential equipment.

Chief Florence Irinyemi, the Iyalaje (market leader) of Idepe, Okitipupa, reported that the fire was first noticed by the market’s security guard at approximately 1:00 a.m., who immediately raised an alarm.

Although the exact cause of the fire remains undetermined, initial findings suggest that an electrical fault in one of the shops may have been responsible for sparking the blaze.

No casualties were reported, but the incident has left the affected traders counting their losses, as attempts to save their merchandise were unsuccessful.
