The Ondo State government has allocated N1 billion for the second installment of outstanding gratuity payments to local government retirees.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa highlighted his administration’s dedication to improving retiree welfare, stating that they are also revising the payment template to expedite the clearance of pending gratuities.
“This initiative continues our efforts to enhance the welfare of retirees in the state,” Aiyedatiwa said.
The initial batch of payments was distributed to pensioners in November 2023.
“Today marks another milestone in our unwavering commitment to the welfare of our people, including both active and retired workers in the Sunshine State,” he remarked on Tuesday.
The current batch predominantly addresses local government retirees from 2012, aiming to settle remaining arrears from previous years.
Governor Aiyedatiwa urged those not included in this round to remain hopeful, affirming the administration’s ongoing commitment to the welfare of all state residents.
Johnson Osunyemi, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) Ondo State chapter, noted that the payment provides significant relief for retirees.
