In the aftermath of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Super Eagles’ stalwart, Kenneth Omeruo, unequivocally dismisses any notion of international retirement, despite a limited role in the tournament.
The 30-year-old defender, predominantly a substitute in AFCON, saw minimal action under coach Jose Peseiro’s preference for a defensive trio featuring Troost-Ekong, Bassey, and Ajayi.
Omeruo, boasting five appearances in the tournament, secured only one starting position against Guinea-Bissau, showcasing his enduring commitment to the team.
A key figure alongside Ahmed Musa, both players stand as the Super Eagles’ longest-serving members, having clinched the 2013 AFCON title.
Addressing queries about his future, Omeruo emphatically declares his sustained dedication to international duty, affirming his readiness to answer the call whenever it comes.
“My current focus is returning to consistent club play and remaining ready for national duty,” Omeruo conveyed to Nigerian journalists upon the Super Eagles’ return to Abuja.
