Ibadan, Nigeria-The Olubadan-in-Council on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting with the Olubadan-elect, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, in Ibadan to formally welcome him and initiate discussions on his upcoming coronation.
The meeting, which lasted nearly two hours, took place at Oba Ladoja’s private residence on Ondo Street, Bodija. It marked the Council’s first official engagement with the Olubadan-elect since the passing of the late Olubadan, Oba Lekan Balogun, on July 7, 2025.
According to a statement released by Ladoja’s media aide, Adeola Oloko, the session began with a minute of silence in honour of the late monarch, after which the council congratulated Ladoja on his confirmation as the next Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Led by Otun Balogun, Oba Kola Adegbola, the Council expressed confidence in Ladoja’s leadership and pledged their unwavering support. “Public expectations are high. We will continue to pray for divine wisdom to guide you,” Adegbola said, adding that council members were ready to serve in any capacity throughout the coronation process.
In his remarks, Oba Ladoja appreciated the council’s unanimous endorsement of his candidacy, despite his absence from the city at the time. He assured the council of a participatory and inclusive reign that would prioritise collective decision-making.
“I deeply appreciate your unity in ratifying my selection. As Olubadan, I will ensure your voices are heard. Together, we will elevate Ibadan to greater heights,” he said.
Ladoja further noted the importance of coordination with key stakeholders—including Governor Seyi Makinde, traditional custodians like the Araba of Ibadan, and the Oluwo Afobaje—to finalise plans for the coronation ceremony. He confirmed that a formal engagement with the governor will soon be scheduled, after which the official date will be announced.
He also assured the council that they would be actively involved in the state-level coronation planning, and any representatives they nominate for the state’s committee would be duly forwarded for approval.
Following the discussions, the Council members joined the Olubadan-elect for lunch.
Among those in attendance were Obas Kola Adegbola (Otun Balogun), Olubunmi Isioye-Dada (Osi Balogun), Abiodun Kola-Daisi (Asipa Olubadan), Abiodun Azeez (Asipa Balogun), Hamidu Ajibade (Ekerin Olubadan), Akeem Adewoyin (Ekerin Balogun), and High Chief Sharafadeen Alli (Ekarun Balogun), who gave the vote of thanks.
The Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, was unavoidably absent but reportedly sent his apologies.
Dignitaries who also visited Oba Ladoja included former Minister Wole Oyelese and 2023 APC governorship candidate, Senator Teslim Folarin, among others.
