Ogun State Triumphs in Women’s Handball Final at 2024 NSF

Abeokuta, Nigeria — In a thrilling showdown at the 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF), Team Ogun emerged victorious in the women’s handball final, edging out Team Sokoto with a 38-34 win at the Alake Sports Complex in Ijeja, Abeokuta, on Wednesday.

Despite grappling with internal disputes over unpaid allowances earlier in the day, the host team rallied their strength and determination to claim the coveted gold medal in front of an elated home crowd.

The encounter was fiercely contested from the outset, with Ogun holding a narrow 18-17 lead at halftime. The second half saw relentless exchanges from both sides, but Ogun maintained composure to secure the four-goal victory.

Team Sokoto, who had put up a spirited challenge, fell just short in their pursuit of the title, conceding to Ogun’s superior play in the final moments.

The win adds to Ogun’s impressive record in ball games at this year’s festival. The state’s men’s volleyball team previously clinched gold, while the women’s volleyball team secured bronze.

Attention now shifts to the upcoming men’s handball final, where Ogun will seek to complete a double victory when they face archrivals Lagos later today.
