Ogun State Shuts Down Two Chinese Firms Over Improper Waste Disposal

The Ogun State Waste Management Authority has sealed off two Chinese-owned companies, Yibao Industrial Limited and Ronchang Industrial Park, for allegedly breaching the state’s environmental regulations.

The enforcement action was taken after multiple warnings to the companies were ignored, with both firms failing to hire accredited waste management collectors to properly handle their waste disposal.

Leading the enforcement, Abayomi Hunye, Managing Director of the Waste Management Authority, stated that the companies’ premises were found littered with waste in violation of Section 17 of the Ogun State Waste Management Law of 2020.

Despite numerous notices and inspections, the companies continued to use unaccredited waste collectors, resulting in unsanitary conditions that exposed residents to foul odours and the risk of underground water contamination. Hunye warned that any business, whether locally or foreign-owned, found guilty of similar environmental violations would face strict sanctions.
