Ogun State Assembly minority caucus calls for increased transparency in the use of local government funds, following corruption allegations

The minority caucus of the Ogun State House of Assembly has called on the state government’s executive arm, led by Governor Dapo Abiodun, to respond transparently to accusations made by Wale Adedayo, the Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government. The caucus has urged the executive to provide sufficient evidence to address the allegations of withholding federal allocations due to local governments in the state.

The Ogun Assembly Minority Leader, Lukman Adeleye, emphasized the importance of allowing local government councils to operate effectively as grassroots governments. He stated that the accusations could be clarified through transparency and accountability, suggesting that proofs of payments, receipts, and other documents would help provide clarity.

Adeleye highlighted the role of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in the assembly in uncovering the truth and acting in the interest of the people. He emphasized that if funds meant for local government development were being diverted, it would not be acceptable anywhere in the world.

The minority leader reaffirmed the commitment to investigating the matter to ensure transparency and uphold the autonomy of local government councils, which is essential for delivering the benefits of democracy to the people.
