Ogun Gov Gives ₦1m Each to Families of Kano Accident Victims

Abeokuta, NigeriaOgun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has extended financial support to the families of 22 athletes and officials from Kano State who tragically lost their lives in a road accident while returning from the National Sports Festival, dubbed the Gateway Games 2024, held in Abeokuta.

The sum of ₦1 million was donated to each of the bereaved families. The donation was delivered on Sunday by a high-powered delegation from Ogun State, led by Deputy Governor Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, who visited Kano to convey Governor Abiodun’s condolences.

Other members of the delegation included the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi; Commissioner for Sports, Mr. Wasiu Isiaka; and Executive Secretary of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the festival, Dr. Kweku Tandoh.

Speaking during the visit, the deputy governor described the donation as a symbolic gesture of Governor Abiodun’s empathy and solidarity with the people of Kano State during this period of mourning. She also commended emergency responders for their prompt intervention and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.

Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Kano State government, Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdusalam Gwarzo expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support. He noted that Governor Abiodun had earlier made a personal call to offer his condolences.
