Ogun State, Nigeria — Nigerian singer Habeeb Olalomi Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been sentenced to three months’ imprisonment following his conviction on assault and theft-related charges.
The judgment was delivered by Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo at the Magistrates’ Court in Ifo, Ogun State.
The case, marked MIF/192C/2023, dates back to November 18, 2022, when Portable was accused of assaulting an individual and stealing musical equipment in the Okeosa area of Ilogbo, under the Ifo Magisterial District.
In April 2023, the controversial artist was arraigned on a three-count charge but had been on bail, granted in the sum of ₦300,000 with two family sureties.
However, his failure to attend multiple scheduled hearings led to his recent remand after appearing in court last Thursday.
During the hearing, Police Prosecutor Inspector Olumide Awoleke outlined the charges against the defendant. After reviewing the evidence, Chief Magistrate Ilo found Portable guilty on two of the three counts.
The court sentenced him to one month’s imprisonment with an option of a ₦10,000 fine for the first count, and two months’ imprisonment with a ₦20,000 fine option for the second count—bringing the total possible jail term to three months.
