Ibadan, Oyo State— The Obidient Movement supporting Peter Obi is rapidly growing in Oyo State as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.
The movement’s recent Oyo State Obidient Conference, themed “Going Forward 2027: A New Nigeria is Possible,” drew political analysts, grassroots organizers, and party faithful to the Empowerment Centre on Ring Road.
Prof. Francis Egbokhare, a linguist from the University of Ibadan, delivered a keynote address critically assessing Nigeria’s political and socio-economic landscape. He highlighted Nigeria’s unrealized potential, describing it as “a giant lying prostrate, trampled by dwarfs,” with governance plagued by poor direction, wasteful spending, and propaganda.
Egbokhare called for a radical restructuring of the national mindset, warning against superficial political tactics: “Confusing ways and means with strategy is a terrible error. Change the game or change the rules.”
Other speakers, including Yunusa, underlined Obi’s clear intent to seek the presidency in 2027 on a one-term platform focused on impactful leadership. “One term to set the tone, restore hope, and pass the baton to a leadership class that understands service,” Yunusa said, stressing that Obi’s governance track record in Anambra State demonstrated what focused leadership can achieve even within a year.
Ayo Akinyemi, Oyo State Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, described the conference as a critical step toward uniting support and strategizing for national transformation. He called on members to embrace the movement as ambassadors of justice, fairness, and people-centered governance.
“We genuinely seek change in Nigeria and recognize that the country’s challenges demand collective determination,” Akinyemi said, urging continued commitment to Obi’s vision for a better Nigeria.
