The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has urged collective action to strengthen the fight against corruption in the oil and gas industry.
Gbenga Komolafe, Chief Executive Officer of NUPRC, made the call in Abuja during a workshop organized by the commission to highlight the damaging impact of corruption on Nigeria’s economy and explore strategies for eliminating it, particularly in the upstream petroleum sector.
Speaking at the event, Komolafe emphasized NUPRC’s pivotal role in fostering transparency and good governance within the industry. He called for greater accountability and efficiency in managing the nation’s hydrocarbon resources.
In a keynote address, human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) commended the NUPRC for its anti-corruption initiative, describing the workshop as a testament to the commission’s readiness to collaborate with anti-corruption agencies in addressing the complex challenges posed by corruption in Nigeria.
The event was attended by representatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). It also featured the presentation of awards to NUPRC staff who demonstrated exceptional professionalism in their duties.
