NSITF, NIMC Team Up to Link Workers’ Data with NIN

Abuja, Nigeria:The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has formed a strategic partnership with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to facilitate the integration and verification of employee data under the Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS) using the National Identification Number (NIN).

The collaboration aims to ensure that the biometric and demographic information of ECS enrollees are authenticated through their NIN, enhancing the integrity and efficiency of the scheme.

Managing Director of the NSITF, Dr. Oluwaseun Faleye, made this known during a courtesy visit to the Director General of NIMC, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, on Tuesday. He emphasized that the data integration initiative is critical to the NSITF’s broader mandate of expanding access to social security benefits.

“This partnership is essential for ensuring a robust identity verification system within the ECS. Just as NIN is now a prerequisite for obtaining a passport, we must adopt the same standard to guarantee accurate and reliable data for all employees under the scheme,” Faleye said.

Faleye noted that the collaboration would streamline data validation processes, improve service delivery, and support policy planning through access to NIMC’s national demographic data. He further highlighted the need for harmonized data systems to ensure accountability and efficiency in the delivery of compensation services to Nigerian workers.

He also called for joint advocacy efforts to promote digital inclusion and data accessibility across various government services.

In response, NIMC’s Director General, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to the partnership, noting that her agency will work closely with NSITF’s technical team to ensure timely integration.

“We recognize the urgency and relevance of this collaboration. Our IT departments will immediately form a joint working group to expedite the integration process. We aim to establish a clear timeline and may eventually mark this milestone with a public announcement,” she stated.

The ECS is a statutory scheme designed to provide compensation to employees who suffer occupational injuries, disabilities, or death. Identity verification, according to both agencies, is key to ensuring that benefits are delivered to the right individuals in a transparent and accountable manner.
