NSIB Launches Probe into Ilorin Airport Aircraft Incident

Ilorin, NigeriaThe Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has opened an official inquiry into the emergency landing of a Diamond training aircraft at the General Tunde Idiagbon International Airport in Ilorin.

In a statement issued by the Bureau, the aircraft crash-landed during a routine simulated instrument approach on Runway 05, prompting immediate investigative action.

Director General of NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., personally visited the incident site to assess the situation. He confirmed the successful retrieval of the aircraft’s data card, a crucial component that will aid in decoding the technical sequence of events leading up to the incident.

The NSIB has stationed four of its investigative specialists at the crash location to perform detailed on-site analysis, including measurements and structural assessments, before returning to Abuja to conduct an in-depth technical review.

Captain Badeh assured the public of the Bureau’s unwavering commitment to safety and transparency, noting that the investigation will be guided by international best practices in aviation standards.

Regarding the condition of the aircraft’s occupants, the NSIB revealed that both individuals aboard are alert and in stable health. One of them has already undergone an MRI scan as part of precautionary medical checks, and both continue to receive appropriate treatment.

The NSIB pledged to release further details as the investigation unfolds.

In a related development, the Kwara State Government expressed gratitude for the positive outcome of the emergency landing, describing it as a near-miss that highlights the importance of aviation preparedness.

The state commended the swift response of the NSIB and reaffirmed its commitment to the safety of its residents. It also pledged ongoing support to the aviation training college and federal authorities as efforts continue to uncover the cause of the incident.
