Asaba, Nigeria — The National Sports Commission (NSC) has expressed strong optimism that Nigeria will secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the USA, Canada, and New Zealand.
Speaking at a press briefing during the 9th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, NSC Director General Bukola Olopade expressed determination in achieving this goal.
“We are confident and committed to leading Nigeria to the World Cup. At this crucial stage, we seek the full support of the media and all stakeholders. Together, we will overcome Rwanda, South Africa, Lesotho, and Benin Republic,” Olopade stated.
He highlighted the enduring resilience of Nigerians, invoking the nation’s famed ‘Never Die Spirit.’
“Tenacity is part of our DNA, and I firmly believe, by God’s grace, that Eric Chelle will guide us to the World Cup, Insha Allah,” he added.
The Super Eagles are preparing for their next qualifying fixture in Bloemfontein, South Africa, on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, a decisive match in Group C alongside Rwanda, South Africa, Lesotho, Benin, and Zimbabwe.
Despite challenges in the group, including recent draws, Nigeria remains in contention as they continue their campaign to join the world’s biggest football showcase.
