The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has implemented a new policy to alleviate congestion and facilitate the efficient entry of export cargoes into Lagos ports. The NPA is granting a 72-hour window for all export trucks to gain access to various terminals.
According to a notice titled ‘Important Update: Revised Access Window for Left-Pregated Export Trucks’ released by Truck Transit Parks Limited (TTP) on behalf of the NPA, trucks that fail to enter the ports within this 72-hour period will have their access tickets automatically deactivated.
The notice explains that starting from Monday, April 22, 2024, left-pregated export trucks must reach their designated terminal within 72 hours of departing from the Export Processing Terminal (ETP). If a truck does not meet this deadline, its access ticket will be deactivated, and the truck will need to return to the ETP in person for ticket revalidation.
This measure is intended to enhance the flow of traffic and reduce bottlenecks around the port areas, as well as to promote the prompt movement of export goods. Stakeholders are advised to plan accordingly and coordinate their operations to ensure that trucks arrive at the port within the specified time limit.
