The apprehension of the kidnapper responsible for the murder of Emmanuel Igwe, an employee of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the abduction of his wife has been revealed in detail.
Emmanuel Ajah, the chairman of Ivo Local Government Area in Ebonyi State, shared the account with the press in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State’s capital. He explained that the suspected mastermind, who is yet to be identified by his actual name, was captured and taken into custody due to the collaborative efforts of the Nigeria Police, local vigilante groups, and other security agencies.
Ajah recounted, “Previously, we successfully arrested the second-in-command of the gang, referred to as Gonner, in Abia State. Our search for the ringleader continued, and we have now succeeded in apprehending the main figure, known as Alhaji. He is presently in police custody.”
He further added, “The pursuit required significant resources since they were constantly on the move, changing locations and phone numbers. Our search took us to various places, including Lagos, Kaduna, Delta, and more. However, our efforts culminated in success last night when we arrested the kingpin.”
The chairman elaborated that Alhaji was responsible for collecting the ransom that secured the release of the kidnap victim from the police, after which he fled into the wilderness. Ajah verified, “He has been taken to the police station. He hasn’t denied his involvement. I just left the police station, and he did not deny receiving the ransom.”
In addition to the capture of the alleged kingpin, Ajah also revealed that two other suspected kidnappers were arrested and three recently abducted victims were successfully rescued. He attributed this accomplishment to the combined endeavors of the Nigerian Army, Police, and local security personnel in Ivo Local Government Area.
