Abuja, Nigeria — The Northern Youth Frontiers (NYF) have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his statesmanship and commitment to national unity during the official mourning and burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a statement released by the group’s National Coordinator, Sama Musa, the NYF praised President Tinubu’s leadership, highlighting the symbolic gestures made in honour of the late President. These included the directive for the national flag to be flown at half-mast for seven days and the declaration of a one-day national holiday.
“The passing of Muhammadu Buhari marks a significant moment in Nigeria’s history,” the group stated. “President Tinubu’s dignified and respectful handling of the national farewell reflects a deep regard for the former leader and resonates with the collective grief of Nigerians.”
Musa noted that President Tinubu’s decision to delegate a high-powered team, led by Vice President Kashim Shettima, to oversee the transportation of Buhari’s remains from London to Daura demonstrated “exemplary leadership and logistical precision,” reinforcing a spirit of unity at a time of national loss.
The statement also reflected on Buhari’s legacy, describing him as a leader defined by integrity, resilience, and a lifelong commitment to national service. It highlighted his administration’s focus on fighting corruption, strengthening national security, and promoting infrastructure and economic development.
“The values President Buhari upheld—integrity, service, and vision—will continue to guide and inspire generations to come,” the statement read. “His contributions have left an indelible mark on the hearts of Nigerians.”
Calling on citizens to draw inspiration from Buhari’s life, the NYF emphasised the importance of national unity during periods of transition, urging all Nigerians to rise above political and regional divisions.
The group also reaffirmed its support for President Tinubu and his administration, expressing confidence in his leadership through this period of mourning and national reflection.
“In commemorating Buhari’s life, we must also renew our commitment to unity and shared values,” Musa added. “President Tinubu’s leadership has reminded us that, in moments of national grief, solidarity and respect must take precedence.”
The NYF concluded by calling for continued reflection on Buhari’s legacy and encouraging all Nigerians to uphold the ideals he championed in service of a stronger, more united nation.
