Abuja, Nigeria: The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed reports claiming that its officers sealed off the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, on Monday.
The denial follows an allegation by a member of the PDP Board of Trustees and former National Secretary, Ibrahim Tsauri, who told journalists that police personnel had prevented BoT members from entering Wadata Plaza, where a scheduled meeting was to be held. According to Tsauri, officers on the scene claimed they were acting on “orders from above” and informed the party officials that no meetings were permitted on the premises.
In response, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, issued a statement labeling the reports as “false, misleading, and not reflective of the actual events.” She clarified that the presence of police officers at the PDP secretariat was solely for the purpose of maintaining peace and order.
“The FCT Police Command is aware of reports alleging that police sealed off the PDP secretariat in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja. The command wishes to categorically state that such information is inaccurate,” Adeh said.
She emphasized that no action was taken to close the premises, and the officers were deployed in accordance with their constitutional duty to safeguard public safety and ensure order.
The statement concluded with an appeal from the FCT Commissioner of Police, urging media organizations to seek confirmation from the Police Public Relations Office before publishing sensitive information
