The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has raised an alarm over an alleged plan by the National Officers Committee (NOC) to impose an illegal State Executive Council (SEC) in Kogi State.
This development was revealed in a communiqué issued by the NMA Kogi State branch after an emergency general meeting.
Signed by Chairman Dr. Abubakar Alhassan and Secretary Adaranijo Rasheed Kolapo, the communiqué condemned a letter from NOC Secretary-General Benjamin Egbo, dated September 13, 2024.
The letter recognized Dr. Aazee Jimoh and Dr. Daniels Sebastine Tunde as Chairman and Secretary, respectively.
The NMA Kogi State branch described the NOC’s action as a gross overreach, stressing that it acted outside its jurisdiction.
The emergency meeting, attended by members of the State Executive Council, State Officers Committee, affiliate heads, and past chairmen, resolved that:
“The general public, particularly the offices copied in the letter, should discountenance the correspondence…
The NOC acted outside their jurisdiction and are doing everything possible to impose an illegal SEC on the congress of the NMA Kogi State branch.”
This controversy follows the impeachment of the immediate past Chairman of the NMA in Kogi State and some executives over allegations of corruption, misappropriation of funds, and abuse of office.
