The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, announced that the National Judicial Council (NJC) has begun steps to hold judges accountable for issuing misleading and conflicting judgments.
During the swearing-in ceremony of 22 new justices for the Court of Appeal on Wednesday at the Supreme Court of Nigeria in Abuja, Justice Ariwoola condemned the conduct of certain judges, calling their actions an embarrassment to the judiciary.
The CJN urged the new justices to uphold integrity, avoid misconduct, and adhere strictly to the Constitution in their adjudications.
In addition to the Appeal Court justices, 11 new judges for the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) were also sworn in. Notable among those inaugurated were Eberechi Wike, wife of the FCT Minister, and Justice Donatus Okorowo of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

In May, the CJN summoned the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court and the Chief Judge of the Kano State High Court over conflicting interim injunctions regarding the Kano Emirate, which caused significant uncertainty in the state. Justice S. A. Amobeda of the Federal High Court in Kano had ordered the eviction of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II from the Kofar Kudu Palace, reaffirming the authority of the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero. Conversely, Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu of the Kano State High Court issued an injunction to protect Muhammadu Sanusi and other key figures from potential harassment by state authorities.
